Beer Tasting with Uncle Mongrel and Aunt Robin (Round 2)

10/28/18 - Otter Creek Brewing Co - Drip Drop Coffee Stout

Uncle Mongrel:
I am not a huge fan of dark heavy beers, and technically, with a 5.6% ABV it is considered a medium beer.  That being said, if I was a dark beer drinker, this would be an enjoyable beer.  It is aromatic and hits your nose with the smell of a dark roast coffee and its rich heavy texture then rolls across the tongue and covers the taste buds and throat with the sensation of a dark cold brewed coffee.  It is gentle with low carbonation so it goes down smooth, but is still malty enough to give you that dark beer charred caramel after taste.

I give it a 3.5 out of 5 pop-tops

Aunt Robin:
Its a dark beer that tastes like your cold coffee drink without any cream, but with that "I know I just drank a beer because of the punch of aftertaste" that hits you in the throat.

I give it a 4 out of 5 pop-tops

Overall thoughts:

3.75 out of 5 pop-tops

If you like cold brew black coffee, dark beer and Drew Carry's Buzz Beer idea, then you will like this one.

As always peeps, if this sounds good to you, go grab some and let us know what you think of it.

Love, Peace and Chicken Grease Y'all!!  Drink some beer!!

Beer tasting with Uncle Mongrel and Aunt Robin

Hello Peeps!! Uncle Mongrel here, before we get into our tastings, we want you to know and understand that we are just two country kids. We grew up drinking beer to drink beer. Never venturing to drink much else but Coors light, Bud light, Milwaukee's Best, Pearl light or Loan Star.

For me, it wasn't until the day I tasted my first Celis Raspberry on a hot summer day in 1997 that I realized that beer could be better...beer could be more than just beer. Since then I have tried hundreds and hundreds of different beers all across this country. With that experience we will do our best to describe to you the beers and brews that we taste.

Our reviews will not be the marketing type that the brewers themselves put on their labels and websites. No, our reviews will simply be that of the average Joe. They may be short, sweet and straight to the point or they may be more complex and in depth if the brew strikes a fancy with us, but they will always be honest.

So, kick back and take a few minutes to read our reviews and if the brew sounds good to you, go out and grab some! If you do, feel free to hit us up and give us your review on it and we will give you and your review a shout out and place on our blogs and posts.

As always Peeps,

Love, Peace and Chicken Grease Y'all! Lets drink some beer!!

Tonight's tasting is of Shipyard Brewing Co's “Island Time: Session IPA”

Uncle Mongrel Says:

With an ABV of 4.5%, Island Time is technically a “Light Beer”. It has a mild complexity full of fresh effervescence. It walks the line of being dry and sweet at the same time and carry's a mild sweet molasses like malty flavor with no sharp bitterness. Its bright almost velvety texture is pleasing and has a warm finish that lingers on the taste buds. All and all, a good brew. I give it a 3.5 on the poptop scale.

Aunt Robin Says:

Island Time tastes like every other “Lite” beer I've ever had. If I wanted to spend more money I would buy this, or I could save money and buy Coors Light. I give it a 3.5 on the poptop scale.

Over all:

If you are looking for a change of pace from you normal light beer, but don't want to stray to far, Island Time is for you. We give it a total of 3.5 out of 5 poptops.
